| Securely erase deleted files
Disk CleanUp is a disk/file utility that can eliminate the data from deleted files from your drive. Regular deletion leaves the file on the drive for easy recovery, so a more secure method, such as Disk CleanUp, is necessary. The program uses the unique method of creating a temporary file in the root directory of a drive. It continues to write to and expand the file until all space has been taken and overwritten, which, depending on the size of the drive and its speed, can take a very long time. Disk CleanUp also offers the NSA erasure method, which overwrites data seven times. Other options include activity logging, priorities, and warning sounds. Disk CleanUp is easy to use, has a tray icon, and can be called by a scheduling program using command-line arguments for automatic cleaning. Reviewed on Dec 9 1997. |
